To apply for permanent resident,
“Continously Stay in Japan for 10 years” is needed.
Leave Japan for more than 3 months
If you leave Japan for more than 3 months,
“Continue to stay”
It deviates from the requirement.
A typical example is “homecoming birth”.
If your Vietnamese wife returns to Vietnam after giving birth and does not return to Japan within 3 months, the period of stay in Japan will be reset, so you have to be careful.
However, it will be difficult to give birth in a foreign country that you are not used to, so that is a difficult place.
The best thing to do is to get a permanent resident and then give birth to a child, but it’s annoying that it doesn’t work.
Leave Japan for more than 6 months in total in one year
Even if you leave Japan within 3 months, if you repeat it many times and it becomes 6 months or more in a year, that too
“Continue to stay”
It deviates from the requirement.
An example of this is “a person who has a lot of business trips”.
If a Vietnamese employee is in the position of a supervisor at the Vietnam factory, he / she will need to go to the Vietnam factory frequently, so in that case, if he / she does not control the business trip period well, a total of 6 months will pass immediately. ..
Even if I have been working for a Japanese company for more than 10 years, it is a waste to not be able to apply for permanent residence because of this, so I would like you to manage it well.
Are there any exceptions?
However, there are exceptions if there is a principle.
for example
・ I was leaving Japan at the request of the Government of Japan.
・ It was a departure that was in the national interest.
・ Other departures for Japan.
In that case, even if you leave Japan for a year, if you submit a statement of reason and documents to support it, you may be able to accept it.

永住許可申請には、
「10年間本邦に引き続き滞在」
という要件があります。
3ヵ月以上日本を離れる
3ヵ月以上日本を離れると、
「引き続き滞在」
という要件から外れてしまいます。
典型的な例が「里帰り出産」です。
ベトナム人の奥さんが里帰り出産でベトナムに帰り、3ヵ月以内に日本に戻らないと、それまでの日本滞在期間がリセットされてしまうので、気を付けなければなりません。
といっても慣れない異国の日本で出産も大変でしょうから、その点は難しい所ですね。
一番いいのは、永住権を取ってから子供を産む事ですが、そううまくはいかないのが悩ましいところです。
1年間に通算して6ヵ月以上日本を離れる
3ヵ月以内の出国も、何回も繰り返して1年間に通算6か月以上となると、それも
「引き続き滞在」
という要件から外れます。
この例は、「出張の多い仕事をしている人」ですね。
ベトナム人の社員がベトナム工場のスーパーバイザー的な立場などの場合、ちょくちょくベトナム工場に行く必要があるでしょうから、その場合はうまく出張期間をコントロールしないとすぐに通算6ヵ月を経過してしまいます。
せっかく日本企業に勤めて勤続１０年以上になっても、このために永住申請できないというのももったいないので、うまくマネジメントして欲しいと思います。
例外はあるのか？
ただ、原則があれば例外があります。
例えば
・日本国政府の要請により出国していた。
・国益にかなう出国だった。
・その他日本国の為の出国だった。
という場合でしたら、1年間日本を離れても、理由書やそれを裏付ける書類を提出すれば、なんとか認めてくれる事もあります。
